2020: The year of Change in the Construction Industry

Year after year the construction industry we see various different trends. From technology changes to trends changing year after year, it is important for construction companies to stay ahead. Read on for the 6 Biggest factors of change to watch in the year 2020.

The design builds popularity growing
The use of design-build has grown significantly over the past few years, across various market sectors and geographies. It has especially grown in the transportation sector. Design-build is being used in both the private sector as well as the public sector project owners as a way to keep projects moving forward, on time and within budget.

The use of technology supplementing
With the construction industry constantly changing and evolving, with innovations ranging from powerful GPS tracking solutions to new construction apps introduced to the market every day. The construction industry is going through a technological renaissance that only continues to grow, there are greater material designs and greater uses of digital and mobile applications.

There are more uses of drones
Drones assist construction companies with a better view of the sight and the project that is being done. A recent study identified that 26% of construction professionals are already using or plan to use a drone in 2020. It is said that newer drones will be able to fly higher than before and have a much better and longer-lasting battery span. We can expect more and more drones to be used at construction companies around the world.

Cutting waste by building lean
The aim of building lean is the aim to decrease time, effort, and waste of materials. Lean construction ensures that projects can be done at a lower cost, which will allow for more competitive pricing in the construction industry for customers. Building lean saves so much time and money, it is not surprising that it is a growing trend for the year 2020.

Modular construction increasing in 2019
Modular construction will save costs, as Modular Buildings can save companies up to 75% of the onsite time when compared to brick and mortar. The modular construction market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth of 6.9% between the years 2020-2023.

Gen Z replacing the Millennials
Because Millennials will be ages 23-38 in 2019; construction companies are now shifting their focus to the new generation. Generation Z. Generation Z is now finishing school and a career in the construction company may just appeal to them on many different levels. Generation Z is fluent digital natives, Gen Z may be able to help constructive firms innovate technologically more than their millennial predecessors could. This could ease up construction and save time, money and resources in years to come.

From new construction technologies, a new generation, to faster easier ways of Construction it is quite clear that the year 2020 is filled with new changes and opportunities for growth in the Construction industry.
